11-12 Artifacts Posted

I posted my box of 11-12 Artifacts on the 643boxbreaks.com site! I have had great luck with this product personally, so it only makes sense to bust it for everyone!

My experience with it has been buying 2 packs from my LCS from different boxes and getting the box hit both times! I'm hoping my luck will translate to the box I got and turn into something AWESOME. I guess we will have to find out the fun way!

Auction ends 11/1/11!

Crazy Cup Hit

I broke my first tin of The Cup on Thursday night. It was pretty nice stuff. I know there are breakers doing cases at a time, and believe me, I wish I could do that because it was over pretty quick with only 6 cards in the box.

One card stuck out though. If you watched the break, then you know. It was a 1/1 Legendary Cuts of Charlie Conacher. Crazy hit. I had to do some research because I honestly didnt know who he was. It turns out he was a pretty important Toronto player from the 30's and 40's. He was the "Bobby Hull of hockey BEFORE Bobby Hull", one article proclaims!

Its pretty cool to see such history come alive in a simple pack of trading cards. I, myself, learned more about the history of a great hockey player and Hall of Famer, and Subterfuge was able to get a great card that he is going to really enjoy (as he said from an excited email). That's what it is all about. Learning about the past and passing it on to someone that will enjoy it. Ok, sappy bit is now over. Thanks again to everyone that bid on the teams!!

Blast from the Past...ish

So there I was watching the Penguins/Wild game the other night with my wife. We live relatively close to the Wild and in the past have made the trip to see a game. I'm not a Wild fan. Simply put. I dont dig the team, the players, or even the announcers, so I go to see the "other" team.

Well, I guess one connection to the Wild I have, besides pulling them in every Dominion box thus far, is that they drafted Nate Prosser.

Nate is an old Sioux Falls Stampede Alumni so I had to pick up his Cup card when I started to see them hit eBay. I know the card wont erupt in value, but I thought it was really cool to have it. Nate used to ref our men's league hockey games on Sunday nights for some extra cash.

Nate is one heck of a guy and was always mostly quiet from what I remember of him. I guess I didn't take particular notice of the Stampede refs other than during period breaks sometimes they would pick up a stick wow us. They were definitely the best refs we ever have had and wouldn't take crap. Good luck in the NHL Nate. Hope you are the next Bourque!

I think the fondest memory I have of sharing the same ice with some amazing talent was back in 2001. We had a local hockey tournament for any towns with adult teams in the region. I was slated to play goal on the team of the organizer of the tournament. He also happened to be the rink manager and the equipment manager of the Stampede. He kept telling me that we were going to have a really good team, but I wasn't so sure after I heard many talented friends were playing on other teams.

When the tournament time came around, I quickly found out that we were going to be quite a team to beat. I learned that  a couple Stampede boys would be joining us. If you know your Stampede history, this can be quite exciting as we had a nice roster at the time.

Jacob Micflikier, who now plays for the AHL's Hershey Bears was one of the standouts. I just remember everyone telling me how good he was and then me confirming it after the first warm-ups...

The next stand-in is the most note-worthy. It was Thomas Vanek. Holy crap right? Well, lets just say the hardest part of the whole tournament was during warm-ups. He had 4 more gears than anyone and just had "it". Amazing stuff to watch. I had one of the best seats in the house too. I felt bad for the other goalies because they were just ripping them up if they were able to get close.

The weeks after I had a bunch of my Friday night leaguers asking me how good they were. I just confirmed that I didnt see many pucks in the warm-ups and I could feel every shot that hit me, even in the leg pads. Truth be told, I dont remember a ton about the tournament. I was just young back then. It didnt really hit me as something important to remember until I heard Vanek was drafted.

If I could, I'd go back to that weekend and live it up again and get some pucks signed. I'm sure Vanek and Micflikier dont remember that tournament, but it sure made some memories for a lot of us here!

The Cup Part I

I got my hands on a couple boxes of The Cup and one is listed now!

I wanted to verify this large of an investment was OK, so here is how it could have went down:

Me: "Honey, I want to buy a pack of hockey cards"
Wife: "Why do you need to ask me?"
Me: "Because it costs over $400...."
Wife: "NO." "Wait.. how many cards do you get?"
Me: "Well..."
Wife: "How Many, Stacks?" (No she doesnt call me Stacks :P )
Me: "Just 5 usually..."
Wife: "I'm glad you asked. NO."
Me: "Ok. I wont order another one then"
Wife: "ANOTHER ONE???"
Me: "Ya, I have two on the way. Great deal online!"
Wife: FACEPALM

OK, that wasn't close to how it went. Mrs. STP is much more trusting and actually really likes hockey card collecting. I just had to show her that the bidders on 643boxbreaks.com are the best on the internet and are just as addicted to cardboard as I am!

So there you go. A slice of my everyday. Listing breaks, ordering "inventory" :) and having a great time along the way! I'm just so thankful she likes it too!!

The Bonuses Trial

Well, we all know that the bonus structure is changing. I, for one, am OK with change in this area. I used to give out a "bonus" card for every one that got 5+ teams in my auctions. While I thought it was cool, there is no way for me to know what a buyer actually wanted. Someone might be buying a team just for a certain player or because it is a cheap price. The last thing I want to do is give someone what I think is a  "bonus" when they could give a crap about the team or the player!

The new idea is to keep it random and with lady luck. As anyone that has watched my last video knows, I am trying to get away from Random.org as much as possible. I picked up some NHL team bottle caps and now use those for my giveaways. I think its a better system as its not nearly as boring as watching Random.org.

As for when a penguins card is hit, I usually try to reward everyone by opening something extra. While I know that blaster boxes were OK given the quality of the hits so far, I want to be prepared for the bigger, better cards I may see. I also will gauge my Pens bonuses on the outcome of the box. If the box ends well, then I will be more likely to "go for it" with a more expensive box/pack.

Another bonus I am going to test is a "Hit Box". What this means is that if I activate the bonus, either through a nice pens card or if I feel like it, I will open up a larger box with more cards, such as a UD Series 1 box, etc and only send out the hits/insert cards. This way you get what you want without the filler and I can reward everyone for their bidding enthusiasm!

If you have any favorites on the bonuses either I or any of the other sellers have done, please let me know. I really want to find the best method that everyone will enjoy. We strive to give everyone the best service as well as the most enjoyable time. That is what hopefully makes us as a site stand out!

The New Inventory

As the previous post suggest, I now have 2x of each Dominion and The Cup. What I didn't mention was that I also have a box of 11-12 Artifacts as well. I know its a hot item on the site because of its recent release.

Edmonton seems like it will the hot team for a while now with RNH starting for the team. That rookie redemption will be the hot one, I feel, next to the Avs' Landy.

I've had some good luck with 11-12 Artifacts so far. I have bought 2 packs on separate occasions from separate boxes from my LCS to see what it was like. Both times I got either the dual or triple swatch box hits! The first one was Sabers Berbe/Ennis/Vanek jersey hit /150 and the second time was a Canadians Markov/Kostitsyn patch hit /50. Not too shabby! Overall the cards are pretty cool. Similar look to the old Artifacts style. The featured player is cut out of the scene and placed on a "artifact-y" background. The patch/fabric/autograph inserts are nice and limited too. Lots of parallels to keep hunters happy and of course, more 1/1 cards for us to wish we had :)

Dominion Part III - Now Listed!

The past week was a spendy one! I received my first of two new Dominion boxes as well as the first of 2 tins of The Cup. Yes, I finally broke down and shelled out the cash for The Cup. I have watched so many breaks of it online. It is amazing stuff, thats for sure. I just wanted to try it out for myself and see what all the hype was about!

I have listed Dominion pt III on the 643boxbreaks.com site ending next Monday. I set the auction prices in the middle of the road. If one bid wins them, you will have one heck of a deal on your hands.

I am also going to list a break ending next Thursday. I haven't decided if it will be The Cup or Dominion yet. I really want to break a tin of The Cup, so I am thinking I will alternate between Dominion and The Cup for a couple weeks of fun!!

A new change I am going to try is breaking twice a week and then shipping both breaks at the same time. I find this really helps reduce the total time I spend addressing, packing, etc. so I am going to try that for the next few breaks. If you know you are not going to bid on the second break or this just doesnt work for you, please let me know. I usually get the cards in the mail within 2 days so one extra shouldn't be a large problem, I dont think. This way it also helps get the second break out a lot quicker!

Another new change is that I have upgraded my card holders for bigger hits. I ordered a couple boxes of one-touch magnetic holders, so if you get a nice, thick hit in the Dominion or Cup breaks, I will put the cards in these holders now. Those of you that were in the last Dominion break and got hits will know that most of the cards were send out in screw-down holders. Hopefully this will save you a step from having to re-slab your big hits!

Again, if you have any comments or questions, please let me know!!

Dominion and the Curious Case of the New Logo!

Dominion Part II ends tonight! I'm pretty excited to see what this box has in it! Its looking like the reception of Dominion is going over great, so I'm considering one more box for the hat trick or moving toward a tin of The Cup!.
3 teams remain without bids! Dallas, Columbus, and Nashville! Super-Cheap chances to get some great cards!

The new logo has been pasted on the 643 site as well as the FaceBook page! Please let me/us know what you think of it! The site has also taken on a more "Halloween-y" feel as well as the logo. The holiday mood has gripped us and we wanted to share it with you too!

I'm hoping that we, as sellers, are giving you, the buyer, the selection that you like to see. As will all breaks, I encourage suggestion to what brands you want to buy! Email me with any suggestions at all!

First Baseball Break is Wrapping Up!

The first 643boxbreaks.com baseball listing is almost over! I'm so far pleased with its reception, and hopefully I can get some very cool stuff out of it for everyone!

If it goes well and I can break even, I'll definitely be mixing in more baseball breaks in the future! I know this isnt the most amazing box of cards, but I needed to test the waters to see how many fans we had :)

Thanks for bidding everyone! Several $1 teams left!!
